David LacyDavid began writing for The Davis Enterprise newspaper in 1995. In 1998, he became the Yolo County reporter for the daily northern California publication and by 1999 he was writing his regular weekly column, “Growing Younger.” In 2003 -- the last year the column ran -- the column was awarded 1st place by the California Newspaper Publisher’s Association in the highly competitive mid-size circulation bracket.

He has also been a contributing writer to “The Winters Express,” “UC Davis Magazine,” “The Fairfield Daily Republic,” and various Cal Aggie Alumni Association publications. He left the newspaper to return to school.

In 2006, David graduated from UC Davis with highest honors and commenced a Ph.D. program in English at UC Irvine. He also earned his M.A. degree at UC Irvine in 2008. He is a full-time Assistant Professor at CSU Long Beach. Periodically he teaches classes at Irvine Valley College as well.

David Lacy was named Part-Time Professor of the Year at Irvine Valley College. The president of the campus, a department administrator and a photographer interrupted his class on Thursday, March 24, and made the surprise announcement.

Lacy will be recognized via a formal resolution at the Sept. 26, 2011, board meeting of the South Orange County Community College District.

Additionally, he recently completed a one-year assignment as a graduate writing fellow in UC Irvine’s Office of the Campus Writing Coordinator. The primary objective of the office is “to support undergraduate writing across the campus,” but office director Dr. Jonathan Alexander also works on policy implementation at the regional and state level as well.

He’s a die-hard San Francisco 49’ers fan, Apple Computers fan, and California enthusiast.

He currently resides in Laguna Beach, CA.
